Get to know your EV better

This website is for a research project, named «Elbil – Chargetrip – EV Routing Improvement R&D Project» by Chargetrip, the developers behind ElbilAppen.

Goal and description

In recent years, vehicle electrification has been the front-runner for sustainability. With EVs becoming more mainstream, there is a need to
better understand end-user charging and driving patterns as well as vehicle and infrastructure performance.

Chargetrip and Norsk elbilforening have a long-term partnership. Since 2017, both parties have worked together to accelerate the adoption of
EVs across Europe by empowering drivers with tools like ElbilAppen, a dedicated route planner application built on top of Chargetrip’s powerful
SaaS routing engine.

Since the launch of ElbilAppen the EV industry has matured rapidly. Both Chargetrip and Norsk elbilforening continue to deliver the tools that
help accelerate sustainable transportation across the Nordics and mainland Europe. Together we are always looking to improve the services we offer and expand the possibilities and features of
ElbilAppen.

With this in mind, we are launching a research project to further improve our predictions and our product offering by better understanding energy
consumption and individual driving styles. Being able to correctly predict energy consumption helps us further optimise route-planning specifically to your vehicle model. To harvest the data we have partnered with Geotab, a global leader in telematics systems. They provide hardware (dongles) that can communicate with your EV.
The data collected by the dongles, comprising energy, speed, accelerations, location, etc, will be used to train machine learning models that will improve our predictions and generate even better routes.

All you need to do is install the device (~ 2-5 minutes) and drive.

All parties involved are GDPR compliant and your data will never be shared with anyone else. Furthermore, your data can be deleted immediately upon request.

Duration

The proposed project aims for 49 signees/vehicles and will last until September 2022. Participating in this project is of course free. Initially, we are looking for owners of the following models.

Benefits for your participation

The project’s desired outcome is to improve our estimations on EV range by encapsulating the effect of the environment, dynamic vehicle
parameters, etc. By predicting the range more accurately, Chargetrip’s routing engine can generate closer to optimal routes that benefit
Chargetrip’s API users. Therefore, the data will help in our research and product development.

Additionally, as a thank you, participants will receive a consolidated report of their EV usage and energy consumption. If possible, a model-based comparison will be provided, for example, a participant driving a Volkswagen ID3 can compare their energy consumption to other ID3s.

Chargetrip will also provide metrics to help participants understand their driving behavior and potentially help improve driving aspects to reduce energy consumption.

The report is anonymized and hence, will not contain or share personal data with other users.

To set up a good baseline for your vehicle, we request you to fill out an online form wherein you provide us with a name and email address
for correspondence, but more importantly, your vehicle details.

Withdrawal of participation

If the Participant wishes that Chargetrip (temporarily) stops collecting Vehicle Data, the Geotab GO Device may be removed/disconnected for the Registered Vehicle and inform Chargetrip via connect@chargetrip.com. If the Participant no longer wishes to participate in the Project, the Geotab GO Device will be returned to Norsk elbilforening.
